About the GLC: The Guild Literary Complex, a community-based literary organization, presents and supports diverse, divergent, and emerging voices through innovative programs including performances and readings. We look at literary culture and ask – what’s missing?
About Unnatural Spaces: Unnatural Spaces will examine the struggles of living in an urban landscape from an environmental perspective. We seek to open up honest conversations with multiple perspectives, examining the compromises we all make day-to-day as city dwellers. The hope is that participating artists and audiences will consider — and even poke fun at — the choices we all make in order to eat, look beautiful, not have to make everything by hand, live within our budgets and get to work on time. In particular, we wish to include people in communities that are often left out of discussions about “green living.” This project will be facilitated by noted director Coya Paz.
The Incubator is a long-term commitment! Writing sessions will begin in January 2012, and meet 1-2 times a week through May 2012. Starting in August 2012, participants will rehearse an average of 12 hours a week. Performances begin October 5, and run 3 days a week for 5 weeks. Participants in the Incubator will receive a modest stipend.
About the Creative Team: Tour Guides is performed by a group of poet/performers. Esmeralda Cuevas, Steven Evans, Reign Star, David Pintor, and Loy Webb have developed their hybrid craft under the guidance of award-winning director Coya Paz, co-founder of Teatro Luna and Proyecto Latina and a poet herself.
